📐 How It Works
Total concrete cost is the sum of ready-mix supply, pump hire, finishing labour, formwork and any other associated costs. Ready-mix is priced per cubic metre delivered. Finishing labour is priced per square metre of slab area.
📋 Worked Example
5m × 8m slab (40 m²), 100mm thick (4 m³), concrete $220/m³, power float $35/m², pump $1,100, formwork $350: Concrete = $880. Finishing = $1,400. Total = $3,730 ($93/m²).
❓ Frequently Asked Questions
Ready-mix concrete pricing varies by region and specification. General guide (2024-25): N20 concrete $180–$220/m³, N25 $200–$240/m³, N32 $230–$270/m³. Minimum load charges apply for small pours (typically 3–4 m³ minimum). Always get 2–3 quotes from local batch plants.
A concrete pump is needed when the truck cannot reach the pour location by chute — typically more than 5m from the truck or where there are obstacles. Pumps cost $800–$1,500 for a half day including operator. For small pours under 2 m³ in accessible locations, wheelbarrow delivery is cheaper.
Machine power float finish: $30–$45/m². Broom finish: $20–$30/m². Exposed aggregate: $45–$80/m². Coloured concrete: $60–$120/m². Stamped or patterned concrete: $80–$150/m². These are labour-only rates — add concrete supply cost separately.
Yes — formwork (edge boards, stakes, bracing) is a real cost that should be included in every concrete quote. Simple driveway edge formwork: $8–$15/lm. Complex curved or architectural formwork can cost significantly more. Don't absorb this cost — quote it explicitly.
